On May 22, 2018, Ivan Laguta, almost fifteen years old, born on August 12, 2003, was consulted at the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. After the examination, the boy was diagnosed with congenital heart disease - multiple secondary defects of the atrial septum. Mitral valve prolapse of the first degree, with slight mitral insufficiency. Ivan needs urgent endovascular closure of the secondary atrial septal defect with the Figulla Flex II ASD occluder with delivery system and measuring balloon, which costs UAH 102,000.
In addition to congenital heart disease, the boy has a «whole bunch» of diagnoses, including Gaucher disease, thrombocytopenia, anemia, hepatomegaly and massive splenomegaly.
Ivan is the eldest son in the family, and he has a younger brother, Mykhailo. The family lives in the city of Odesa. The mother, Lepetun Yana Oleksandrivna, is unemployed and takes care of her son Ivan, who has been disabled since childhood. Yana Oleksandrivna is divorced from her sons' father. They do not have their own home and live with her ex-husband's mother. The family's financial resources are very limited and they are unable to purchase such expensive consumables to save Ivan's heart on their own.
Vanya's mother turned to our Foundation for help, asking for assistance in purchasing expensive consumables for her son.
