On December 21, 2015, a boy from the village of Luka-Meleshkivska, Vinnytsia district, Vinnytsia region, was consulted at the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. Maxim Nasalsky was born on February 26, 2004.
The boy was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect - a defect of the atrial septum in the central part.
Maxim needs endovascular correction of the defect with the Figulla Flex II ASD occluder with a delivery system and a measuring balloon, the cost of which is: 98 000 UAH.
Maksym's family consists of his mother, Natalia Nasalska, his father, Vasyl Nasalskyi, and his twin sister, Anastasiia, who has been disabled since childhood. Maksym's mother does not work, but takes care of his sister, receiving state aid for a disabled child.
The father's job is seasonal, in the warm season, and he is unemployed in the winter. The family's income is very low and they cannot raise money for a heart implant for their son on their own.
Maksym's mother asked the Foundation to help raise funds to purchase expensive medical supplies for her son. Here is her letter:
«Good afternoon!
We ask all concerned people to help our family in this difficult situation. Our family consists of four people. We live in the countryside, not far from the city. In 2004, I gave birth to 8-month-old twins, a boy and a girl weighing 2,250 and 2,350 grams. The girl immediately lagged behind in mental development, but the boy was fine. In 2014, before school, a local doctor heard Maksym's heart murmur and sent him for a checkup. A congenital heart defect was found. We were immediately sent to the Kyiv Heart Hospital. Kyiv, 24 Melnikova str. Melnikova, 24. We stayed there for 2 weeks, but the operation was not performed, because Maxim's white blood cells were over 60, and they were afraid to do it. After a while, a doctor from the Heart Institute came to Vinnytsia, and we went to Kyiv again. There we were advised to look for a foundation to help. I asked everyone, we searched on the Internet, no one wanted to help. They said that you can live with such a pathology, there are other sick children. My husband has a seasonal job. He does not work in winter, he stays at home. He earns 3 to 4 thousand hryvnias a month. Our girl is disabled since childhood. I take care of her. I take her to a special school in the city every day. I drop her off in the morning and pick her up in the evening. I receive 1700 hryvnias from the state.
With such income, we are unable to raise such a huge amount for the operation. We are asking you to help us. We will be grateful for any help. Sincerely, mom Natasha and dad Vasily».
